When is the best time to trek gorillas?
Gorilla trekking is possible year-round, but the most popular months are June–September and December–February when trails are drier and conditions more comfortable. In wetter months, treks can be muddier and more challenging, yet sightings are just as reliable and parks are less crowded.

Difficulty varies by group and location. In Uganda, treks can last 2–6 hours across steep, forested terrain; in Rwanda, trails are generally 1–4 hours. A moderate fitness level is recommended. Hiring a porter makes the hike easier and directly supports local livelihoods.
June–September and December–February are the driest months with easier trails. But gorilla trekking is available year-round, and sightings are equally rewarding even in wetter months. Shoulder seasons often offer better value and quieter trails.
