Luxury Uganda Gorilla Safari, mountain gorilla tour and permits in Uganda and Rwanda

Overview

This 12-day itinerary covers Uganda’s entire classic safari circuit — south-to-north, with all of the country’s flagship primate and wildlife experiences in a single well-paced trip. Where the 8-day classic circuit gives you the western parks, this itinerary adds four more days to include Murchison Falls in the northwest and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary on the return — completing the picture with Uganda’s largest national park and the country’s only wild white rhino population.

The structure is south-first. Entebbe opens with optional shoebill tracking at Mabamba. Lake Mburo provides the first wildlife day. Three nights at Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge cover the Batwa cultural encounter on Day 3, the gorilla trek on Day 4, a free activities day on Day 5, and the Bwindi cross-forest walk to Buhoma on Day 6. From Buhoma, the Ishasha sector brings the tree-climbing lions before settling at Queen Elizabeth. Two days at Kibale cover the chimpanzee trek and Bigodi. Then the long northern drive to Murchison Falls for game drives and the boat safari. Ziwa closes the return to Entebbe on Day 12.

At USD 8,252 pp (based on two people), this is a comprehensive mid-range package that includes permits for gorillas ($800), chimpanzees ($250), shoebill tracking ($120 pp), and all park fees.

Key Information:

  • Duration: 12 days
  • Departure Location: Entebbe International Airport
  • Trip Type: Private, tailored / Physical and relaxed
  • Price: USD 8,252 pp (2 people)

Twelve days is the ideal length for the full Uganda circuit — it gives every destination enough time to breathe, and adding Murchison to the classic western circuit makes the trip genuinely comprehensive. You come home having seen everything Uganda offers.

Highlights

  • Shoebill tracking at Mabamba Wetland ($120 pp, included)
  • Lake Mburo game drive — zebra, impala, buffalo, and acacia birding
  • Batwa cultural trail on arrival at Nkuringo
  • Mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
  • Free Day 5 at Bwindi — five optional activities

  • Tree-climbing lions at Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Kazinga Channel boat safari — Africa’s highest hippo density
  • Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi Wetland at Kibale Forest
  • Murchison Falls game drives and Victoria Nile boat safari to the falls
  • White rhino tracking on foot at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

General Information

Uganda’s five national parks on this itinerary each represent a distinct ecosystem. Lake Mburo is the acacia savannah entry point. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is ancient Albertine Rift montane forest — UNESCO listed, 25,000 years of continuous forest cover, home to half the world’s mountain gorillas. Queen Elizabeth National Park is the forest-savannah mosaic of the Albertine Rift floor. Kibale Forest is equatorial lowland rainforest — the highest chimpanzee density in East Africa. Murchison Falls National Park is the open Nile savannah of the northwest, bisected by the Victoria Nile as it plunges through its famous 7-metre gorge.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary fills Uganda’s white rhino gap — the Uganda Wildlife Authority manages the sanctuary in partnership with Rhino Fund Uganda, and the growing population of southern white rhinos is tracked on foot by armed rangers 24 hours a day.

Detailed

Itinerary

This 12-day itinerary follows a south-then-north routing, which avoids backtracking and keeps the circuit logical. The Bwindi chapter receives three full activity days — Batwa trail, gorilla trek, free day — plus a fourth day for the cross-forest walk, making the Bwindi experience genuinely deep rather than a single-permit visit. Murchison receives two days for both the game drive and the Nile boat safari. Ziwa on the final day is a natural bookend — encountering Uganda’s white rhinos on foot is an entirely different experience from the vehicle-based game viewing of the week before.

What Our Travellers Say

My son and I spent two weeks experiencing African magic with Nkuringo Safaris, and we will never forget our time there. Truly a priceless experience. I could talk about those experiences for pages — the friendly people, the beautiful Nile River where we did whitewater rafting, the tree lions, the chimpanzees, and the majestic mountain gorillas.

Steven Susser

In November 2020, we travelled to Uganda as a couple in a 4×4 Safari Jeep. Considering the difficult time we are all in, we were especially happy about the level of service we experienced. You can travel to Uganda with no problem. During our travel, we felt safer than in Europe – everybody cared about our health and happiness.

Sarah B

Don’t miss out on this unique experience. Our guide, Richard, was excellent. We had an informative and unique walk down the mountain from Kisoro to Lake Mutanda. We walked through villages and saw families actively working their farms. The walk is easy. The dugout canoe was very comfortable, with padded seats. We highly recommend the adventure.

Kwa Alaska

My husband and I had a week’s vacation, which is not a lot given everything we wanted to do/see. Nkuringo organized our trip to make the most of this week. The trip was flawlessly organized. Time management was perfect. They were flexible and accommodating, all our needs were met, and we felt listened to; it was a truly customized experience.

Victoria V

The most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. The welcome from a gorgeous team was lovely… hot water bottles in the bed and a fire lit in our room each night made it such a special place.

Travelling Uganda as a couple… our guide knew so much about animals, plants and the country’s history. He was funny and friendly and looked after us incredibly well.

Tom R, USA

We are a travel company ourselves and this company over-delivered for us… The whole thing ran like clockwork, even while making sure everyone was happy with the amount of time spent in each place.
