Frequently Asked Questions
For most Uganda safari itineraries, staying in Entebbe on the night of international arrival is strongly recommended. The road between Entebbe and Kampala can be congested — particularly on the Entebbe Expressway during evening hours — and bypassing Kampala entirely means a shorter, simpler transfer to your hotel. If your itinerary begins with an early domestic flight from Entebbe Airport the following morning (to Kisoro, Kihihi, Kasese, or Fort Portal), staying in Entebbe removes the risk of missing the flight. All six Nkuringo Entebbe properties are within 15 minutes of the airport.
All six properties are close enough to the airport that an early departure is manageable from any of them. The Boma Hotel and Papyrus Guesthouse are both reliable choices for domestic flight connections — they are established in their operations, staff are familiar with early safari departures, and kitchen teams can prepare early breakfasts and packed lunches on request. Confirm your flight time at check-in and arrange a transfer with the hotel or Nkuringo Safaris the evening before.
Entebbe has genuine half-day attractions. The Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) holds a broad range of Uganda’s wildlife species and is a useful introduction to the animals guests will see on safari. The Entebbe Botanical Gardens — 40 acres on Lake Victoria, historically significant for early conservation research — are good for birdwatching and lake views. Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, operated by the Jane Goodall Institute, is accessible by boat from Entebbe pier and houses orphaned and rescued chimpanzees. The Mabamba Swamps, approximately 30–45 minutes from Entebbe by road then canoe, are one of the most reliable places in Uganda to see the shoebill stork. Local markets, restaurants, and bars are within walking distance of most Entebbe hotels.
Papyrus Guesthouse is a Nkuringo Lodges brand — it is owned and operated by Nkuringo Safaris, making it the only property in the Entebbe portfolio that is an own-brand lodge rather than a partner property. It is the most affordable option in the portfolio at around $80 per person per night. Guests booking Papyrus through Nkuringo Safaris benefit from coordinated logistics between the guesthouse and Nkuringo’s other properties, including Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge — flexible departure times and managed transfers can be arranged as part of an end-to-end safari itinerary.
Yes. All foreign visitors must apply for a Ugandan visa before arrival — visas are not issued on arrival. A standard 3-month tourist visa costs $50. An East African Tourist Visa — covering Uganda, Kenya, and Rwanda on a single visa — costs $100 and is valid for 90 days across all three countries. Apply at the Uganda e-visa portal. A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is mandatory for entry. Check current requirements with the Ugandan immigration website or your home country’s Ugandan embassy before travelling, as requirements can change.
All six Nkuringo Entebbe partner properties offer airport transfers, and Nkuringo Safaris coordinates these as part of safari bookings. The drive from the airport to most Entebbe hotels is 10–20 minutes. Taxis and ride-hailing services (SafeBoda, Bolt) are available from the arrivals area. Note that 2 Friends Beach Hotel includes one complimentary airport transfer as standard. If arriving late or with complex onward arrangements, pre-arranging a transfer through Nkuringo Safaris is the most reliable option.
