    Mount Gahinga Lodge

Kasenyi Safari Camp is a mid-range tented camp in the northern section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, perched on the edge of Lake Bunyampaka — a crater salt lake known for flamingos. From here, guests look out across the lake and the open plains of northern QENP beyond.

The camp is built right at the start of the Kasenyi Plains game tracks, which makes it one of the strongest-positioned lodges in the park for big game and predator sightings. Lion prides, leopard, hippo, buffalo, elephant, kob, waterbuck, hyena, and warthog are all regularly seen on game drives from here.

Best for: Mid-range travellers, wildlife photographers, and guests prioritising proximity to the Kasenyi Plains big-cat circuits over luxury extras. A solid choice for two-night Queen Elizabeth stays as part of a wider Uganda safari.

    Accommodation at Kasenyi Safari Camp

The camp has eight spacious safari tents, all suspended off the ground and angled to face Lake Bunyampaka.

    Each tent includes:

    • En-suite bathroom with hot and cold water
    • Spacious living area
    • Private deck overlooking the salt lake
    • Mosquito net

The main lounge and dining building blends African architectural design with a contemporary safari aesthetic, with views over the lake and plains.

For safety, an armed ranger escorts guests to and from their tents after dark — a standard procedure in this part of the park, where wildlife moves freely through camp.

    Amenities at a glance:

    • En-suite bathrooms with hot/cold water
    • Restaurant and bar
    • Free Wi-Fi
    • Laundry service
    • Mosquito nets
    • Armed ranger escort to tents after dark

    Activities at Kasenyi Safari Camp

Kasenyi sits at the start of the most productive game tracks in northern Queen Elizabeth, with access to the full range of QENP activities within a short drive.

Game Drives — Kasenyi Plains Lion prides, leopard, elephant, buffalo, hyena, and large herds of Uganda kob and waterbuck are regularly seen from the camp’s doorstep. Early morning drives are best for big cats.

Boat Safari on the Kazinga Channel The Kazinga Channel — connecting Lakes George and Edward — has one of the densest concentrations of hippos in Africa, plus elephants, buffalo, and prolific birdlife. Available as a scheduled boat launch or private charter.

Lake Bunyampaka and Crater Views The lake itself draws birds (flamingos seasonally), hippos, and antelope. Walking and viewpoints around the camp give close access without leaving the property.

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge The nearby Kyambura Gorge is a low-key, less-trafficked alternative for chimpanzee trekking. Sightings are less guaranteed than in Kibale, but the experience is quieter and the gorge is rich in red-tailed monkeys, black-and-white colobus, baboons, and vervet monkeys.

Bird Watching Queen Elizabeth has over 600 recorded bird species — one of the highest counts of any African park. Falcons, the blue-headed bee-eater, and the African finfoot are among the headline birds. The Kasenyi area and the Kazinga Channel are both top spots.

How to Book Kasenyi Safari Camp

Nkuringo Safaris partners with Kasenyi Safari Camp and can usually secure better rates as part of a wider Uganda safari itinerary.

    We can help you:

    • Bundle Kasenyi into a tailored Uganda safari
    • Combine the camp with other lodges around Queen Elizabeth or onward stops in Bwindi, Kibale, or Lake Mburo
    • Add chimpanzee trekking permits for Kyambura Gorge or Kibale, plus boat safaris on the Kazinga Channel

We recommend a minimum of two nights to make full use of the Kasenyi Plains game tracks.

    What Our Travellers Say

Our guide (Darrick) was amazing; he was knowledgeable, very informative, and very flexible too! He also went above and beyond to make sure we experienced the things we were showing interest in. We are truly happy with Nkuringo and recommend it to friends and family.

My son and I spent two weeks experiencing African magic with Nkuringo Safaris, and we will never forget our time there. Truly a priceless experience. I could talk about those experiences for pages — the friendly people, the beautiful Nile River where we did whitewater rafting, the tree lions, the chimpanzees, and the majestic mountain gorillas.

    Steven Susser

In November 2020, we travelled to Uganda as a couple in a 4×4 Safari Jeep. Considering the difficult time we are all in, we were especially happy about the level of service we experienced. You can travel to Uganda with no problem. During our travel, we felt safer than in Europe – everybody cared about our health and happiness.

Don’t miss out on this unique experience. Our guide, Richard, was excellent. We had an informative and unique walk down the mountain from Kisoro to Lake Mutanda. We walked through villages and saw families actively working their farms. The walk is easy. The dugout canoe was very comfortable, with padded seats. We highly recommend the adventure.

My husband and I had a week’s vacation, which is not a lot given everything we wanted to do/see. Nkuringo organized our trip to make the most of this week. The trip was flawlessly organized. Time management was perfect. They were flexible and accommodating, all our needs were met, and we felt listened to; it was a truly customized experience.

The most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. The welcome from a gorgeous team was lovely… hot water bottles in the bed and a fire lit in our room each night made it such a special place.

    David Q, UK

Our driver and guide (Frederic) made our stay very pleasant. He had a lot to share and was open to our ideas. We could rely on him at any time.

Travelling Uganda as a couple… our guide knew so much about animals, plants and the country’s history. He was funny and friendly and looked after us incredibly well.

    Tom R, USA

We are a travel company ourselves and this company over-delivered for us… The whole thing ran like clockwork, even while making sure everyone was happy with the amount of time spent in each place.
