In Bwindi Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a 331 km² UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwestern Uganda and home to roughly half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas. Lodges and camps are concentrated around the park’s four gorilla trekking sectors — Buhoma in the north, Ruhija in the north-east, and Rushaga and Nkuringo in the south — each with its own trailhead, gorilla families, and accommodation character.

The range runs from multi-award-winning luxury lodges with Virunga views to community-run budget camps within walking distance of the forest gate. Because gorilla permits are sector-specific, the right lodge is determined first by which permit you hold, then by style and budget.

In Kibale National Park

Kibale National Park is a 766 km² tropical rainforest in western Uganda, home to 13 primate species and the highest concentration of chimpanzees of any forest in Africa. Chimpanzee trekking at Kanyanchu — the park’s main visitor centre — is the primary draw, but the park also offers the Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, 375 recorded bird species, guided forest walks, night walks, and easy access to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary.

The accommodation portfolio around Kibale runs from Primate Lodge, set inside the national park itself, to upmarket crater lake lodges (Kyaninga, Ndali) with Rwenzori Mountain views. Choosing a lodge is largely a question of how close to the Kanyanchu trailhead you want to be, and how much the setting beyond the park matters to you.

In Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda’s largest national park, covering 3,840 km² of savannah, riverine forest, and wetland in the north-west of the country. The Victoria Nile bisects the park from east to west before squeezing through a 7-metre rock gorge to create Murchison Falls — the world’s most powerful waterfall by flow rate — then continuing north to Lake Albert.

The park supports four of the Big Five (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo), Rothschild’s giraffe, hippo, Nile crocodile, and over 450 bird species including the shoebill stork at the Nile Delta. The boat cruise along the Nile to the base of the falls and game drives in the Buligi area on the park’s north bank are the two signature activities. The Nkuringo portfolio covers five properties across the full price range, from the luxury bandas of Nile Safari Lodge to budget camps on the park’s northern edge.

What Our Travellers Say

Our guide (Darrick) was amazing; he was knowledgeable, very informative, and very flexible too! He also went above and beyond to make sure we experienced the things we were showing interest in. We are truly happy with Nkuringo and recommend it to friends and family.

Victoria

My son and I spent two weeks experiencing African magic with Nkuringo Safaris, and we will never forget our time there. Truly a priceless experience. I could talk about those experiences for pages — the friendly people, the beautiful Nile River where we did whitewater rafting, the tree lions, the chimpanzees, and the majestic mountain gorillas.

Steven Susser

In November 2020, we travelled to Uganda as a couple in a 4×4 Safari Jeep. Considering the difficult time we are all in, we were especially happy about the level of service we experienced. You can travel to Uganda with no problem. During our travel, we felt safer than in Europe – everybody cared about our health and happiness.

Sarah B

Don’t miss out on this unique experience. Our guide, Richard, was excellent. We had an informative and unique walk down the mountain from Kisoro to Lake Mutanda. We walked through villages and saw families actively working their farms. The walk is easy. The dugout canoe was very comfortable, with padded seats. We highly recommend the adventure.

My husband and I had a week’s vacation, which is not a lot given everything we wanted to do/see. Nkuringo organized our trip to make the most of this week. The trip was flawlessly organized. Time management was perfect. They were flexible and accommodating, all our needs were met, and we felt listened to; it was a truly customized experience.

Victoria V

The most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. The welcome from a gorgeous team was lovely… hot water bottles in the bed and a fire lit in our room each night made it such a special place.

David Q, UK

Our driver and guide (Frederic) made our stay very pleasant. He had a lot to share and was open to our ideas. We could rely on him at any time.

Travelling Uganda as a couple… our guide knew so much about animals, plants and the country’s history. He was funny and friendly and looked after us incredibly well.

Tom R, USA

We are a travel company ourselves and this company over-delivered for us… The whole thing ran like clockwork, even while making sure everyone was happy with the amount of time spent in each place.
