Nile Safari Lodge is a luxury, eco-designed lodge on the southern banks of the Victoria Nile, between the Albert Delta and the Paraa jetty inside Murchison Falls National Park. It sits 20 km downstream from the falls themselves.
The lodge is built from locally sourced eucalyptus wood, designed with a deliberately light footprint that blends into the riverside bush. With only eight bandas, it’s small, intimate, and genuinely high-end — one of the most refined options in northern Uganda for luxury safari holidays.
It’s also one of the few lodges in Uganda with its own on-site helipad — a meaningful asset for travellers connecting from Bwindi gorilla trekking, Entebbe, or Kigali by helicopter charter.
Best for: Luxury travellers, honeymooners, and high-end families wanting a refined, design-led south-bank base with the option of helicopter access and a private plunge pool.
Accommodation at Nile Safari Lodge
The lodge has eight bandas across three categories, all with indoor and outdoor showers, mini-fridges, private decks, and uninterrupted river or forest views.
Deluxe Banda The standard luxury option — wooden interiors, en-suite with both indoor and outdoor showers, private deck, and double bed.
Exclusive Banda The romantic upgrade — adds a private plunge pool and star bed for sleeping under the night sky.
Family Banda Designed for families, with shared living space, a private swimming pool, and an outdoor viewing terrace.

Dining at Nile Safari Lodge
The restaurant offers communal dining as well as private alternatives — terrace, shaded pergola, or candlelit dinner on your own deck.
The in-house chef serves international and continental dishes with a safari twist, plus fresh-baked bread and pastries daily. The cocktail bar is the lodge’s social hub for evening drinks.
Families and Children
The dedicated Family Banda is the most practical setup for families, with a shared living space, private pool, and outdoor terrace. Children aged 5–15 are charged $110–$185 per night depending on season and banda category. As with all Uganda lodges, children under 15 cannot trek mountain gorillas.
Activities at Nile Safari Lodge
Nile Safari Lodge’s south-bank position gives access to the full range of Murchison Falls activities — and the helipad makes it easy to combine with Bwindi gorilla trekking on the same trip.
Motorboat Safari to the Base of the Falls A 3-hour return trip up the Victoria Nile to the foot of Murchison Falls, with hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, Rothschild’s giraffe, elephant, and lion along the banks.
Motorboat Safari to the Nile Delta A tranquil 3-hour boat trip downstream along the Victoria Nile to the Lake Albert delta — the best chance to spot the elusive shoebill stork. Available as an early morning ride with breakfast onboard or as a sunset cruise.
Game Drive Safaris Cross via the Paraa Vehicle Ferry to the rich savannah grasslands of the Buligi area between the Victoria Nile and Lake Albert. The southern side of the river is more wooded — quieter wildlife but a useful route to the Top of the Falls.
Chimpanzee Tracking — Kaniyo Pabidi & Budongo Forest The nearby Kaniyo Pabidi Forest has over 800 chimpanzees, with around 90 across six habituated troops. Budongo Forest, slightly further south, is a quieter alternative with similar primate and birdlife but no habituated chimps.
Hike to the Top of the Falls A 45–60 minute trail to the top of Murchison Falls, often combined with a game drive or boat safari for a longer day out.
Hot Air Balloon Safari Dream Balloons operates from a take-off site on the river’s north bank, around 17 km from the lodge. The 8-passenger basket flies east towards the falls or west towards Lake Albert depending on wind, with a bush breakfast on landing.
Bird Watching and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Murchison Falls has over 450 recorded bird species. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, en route to the park, offers guided walks to track Uganda’s only wild white rhinos — practical as a stop on the drive in from Kampala.
How to Get There
- By road from Kampala — around 5 hours (305 km / 189 mi) via Masindi, entering through Kichumbanyobo and Mubako Gates.
- Scenic alternative — via the escarpment road through Bulisa and Wanseko.
- By air (small chartered) — Bugungu Airstrip is around 25 minutes’ drive from the lodge, with chartered flights from Entebbe.
- By helicopter — the lodge has its own helipad (GPS: 2°15’08.7″ N 31°31’10.2″ E), with a jet-ranger charter for up to 3 passengers available from $3,900. Useful for travellers connecting a gorilla safari in Bwindi with Murchison Falls in a single trip.
